LESSON #1 – GREETINGS and BASIC PHRASES

CIAO – Hi, hello (everyday greeting, both formal and informal, at the beginning and at the end of the conversation)

BUON GIORNO – Hello (mostly formal greeting, but you can use it also with the people you know, only at the end of the conversation, literally “good day”) 

ARRIVEDERCI – Bye bye, (formal, only at the end of the conversation, literally “see you” )

Basic phrases:

COME STAI? – How are you? (informal, singular – speaking with only one person)

COME STA? – How are you? (formal, singular – speaking with only one person)

BENE, GRAZIE. – I’m fine, thank you.

→ BENE – well

→ GRAZIE – thank you

QUANTO COSTA? – How much does it cost?

→ QUANTO – how much/many

COME TI CHIAMI? – What’s your name? (informal, “you” singular, literally “How are you called?)

→ COME – how

MI CHIAMO… – My name is… (literally I’m called…)

DI DOVE SEI? – Where are you from?

→ DOVE – where
