Pizza is maybe the most known italian product worldwide.
You can buy a round pizza, 1 meter pizza or filled pizza which is a pizza with the filling inside, not on the top. The basic type of pizza is Pizza Margherita which is a simple pizza with tomato, mozzarella and basil.
One of the best pizzas is made in Naples. The normal price for the round pizza could be about 6 Euro in the south of Italy, in the north it’s a little bit more.

There are so many types of pasta in Italy that’s it’s almost impossible to learn all of them. Every region has its own typical shape and recipe of pasta.
Important note!!! When you cook the pasta you have to BOIL the WATER FIRST and then put in the pasta. It depends on the type of pasta but the real Italian pasta is really QUICK to boil, some types only 5 or 6 minutes!!!! There is an expression “AL DENTE” which means that the parts is cooked enough to be eaten but NOT really soft and OVERCOOKED, it mustn’t be boiled to mush. You NEVER WASH or rinse pasta when finished, you only pour away the water and add IMMEDIATELY the sauce. And you never add ketchup to pasta in Italy.

It’s a sweet Italian pastry made empty or with a filling of chocolate, jam or a cream. It’s called also “brioche”. Together with a cappuccino or an espresso it’s considered to be a typical Italian breakfast. Infact every Italian can tell you that you can’t ask a cappuccino with a cornetto at a bar during the day, only in the morning for breakfast. If you want to let know that you are a foreigner ask a cappuccino with a cornetto in the afternoon and it will be clear 🙂

The ice-cream is very popular in Italy, sometimes a family goes out in the evening only to eat together an ice-cream. Normally you find ice-cream exposed in open boxes so that you can see the flavor. But the best ice-cream is in closed round boxes and it’s opened only to serve the ice-cream. Usually it’s served in a cone but there is also a very special type of serving ice-cream. It’s served inside of a brioche. It’s typical for Sicily but you can find it almost everywhere. Try it, it’s really special!
