A reflexive verb is a verb whose direct object is the same as its subject.
Examples in English:
- I wash myself.
- I introduce myself.
- I enjoyed myself.
In Italian these verbs are more frequent than in English. Attention, the verbs which are reflexive in English may not be reflexive in Italian and vice versa.
A few verbs to start with:
VESTIRSI – to get dressed
LAVARSI – to wash, clean
PETTINARSI – to comb, brush
SPOSARSI – to get married
ALZARSI – to get up, stand up
SEDERSI – to sit down
SVEGLIARSI – to wake up
